Taboo 03:16 video
Run but you cannot hide feel your pulse inside my vision Your blood is on my mind It really wasn't my decision Somebody has to go I was built for speed Remember when we danced so low Now all we do is bleed Chorus Ooh it's creeping over you It's taboo Ooh it's creeping over you and over me too Can you feel the beat Threatening to burn this place down I'm drowning in the heat Transfixed by this addiction Nobody has to know Your cypher is safe with me Just hold on and don't let go We're going in deep Chorus It's creeping over you
2.
You cry a tear for the cigarettes you never smoked Send em off to bed with a little lie, a lullaby And when he asks you why you're so cold, you're somewhere else you tell him cul-de-sac is French for Dead End Oh Chase the sidewalks up and down Are they watching? Are they seething? Another pill to take you down Count the cobwebs on the ceiling Two cocktail lunch and a benzodiazepine Quell the Stepford Wives with a little grin, a counterfeit And when they ask you why you're so bold, you're someone else You sink into the bath and swallow your goodbye Oh Chase the sidewalks up and down Are they watching? Are they seething? Another pill to take you down Watch the shadows on the ceiling

She drives like she's running from something Her heart goes from parked to 100 It rattles and it shakes but she'll never hit the brakes She drives, she drives like she's running Lights, red and white in the dark This time, she knows everything's wrong This fight felt like the end of a song This time she won't drag it on, she's gotta cut and run She drives like she's running from something Her heart goes from parked to 100 She kills what she loves but she'll never get enough She drives, she drives, like she's running
4.
I've been reading your horoscope lately Ive been checking yesterday's news Picking up clues and searching for answers The code won't crack before I do Do you believe in broken window theory? My chipped nails give away my story Chorus I've diagnosed the problem I can't cut it out Do you really think I can do this by myself? I've been snooping around in your closet I've been scoping all your old haunts Uncrumpling notes I found in your pocket Tying and trying all my old knots Do you believe that we can change our story? All I wanted was to be there for you I'm drifting to sea I did it to myself, I know it's true I was spinning in your arms And now we're just sinking Chorus
5.
I Fall 03:18
Missed the first bus maybe I’ll catch the last make my way downtown see your face in the plate glass miles from home but I’m not lost yet buying postcards you know that I’ll never send Torn apart I’ve still got my pride Chorus Reach up, call out but I fall, I fall You stay, I lean out and I fall, I fall I wanna be back in love find a way to just climb back up But I fall, I fall Missed the first stop Couldn't quite face the past Put my phone on mute Ignore the tourists that I can’t stand Keep thinking bout the night we met The song you played or me on that old cassette Move my feet but my heart is still on the line Chorus I wanna be back in love
6.
Are you ready for this unique opportunity Are you prepared for just how good your life is gonna be Chorus Five easy payments of $19.99 Limited time offer, be the caller on the line We're standing by the phones, aren't you ready to be more Systems upgrade in store when you click and act now Can't you see yourself, faster, stronger, more agility And don't you hate yourself for every flaw and insecurity Chorus Are you ready for this unique opportunity And are you prepared for just how good your life is gonna be
7.
Lost Cause 02:55
You can't fake yourself happy But you can hate yourself thin And I guess that's good enough for him You never liked him anyways Isn't that the way it always goes Your life could have been so much bigger With Marco or Mohawk Paul Now the baby's crying You're crying for your mom Everybody's leaving The winter lingers on And here you stand, a lost cause A lost cause Well you can't make the world love you But you can nurse a memory And I guess that's why you drink For your star died long ago But the heart it wanders on All you need is one hit single The perfect summer song Now this empty barroom becomes your prison walls Time slips through your fingers Tomorrow marches on And here you sit a lost cause A lost cause You can make it if you try
8.
You go to work on time and you visit the dentist You gotta wait in line with the miserable masses Just counting down the wire till your moment of zen, yeah Oh, it feels so good But when you're off the clock it's another disaster The pipe is all you got, no you've never been higher Just gotta quell the thoughts, scrape the bowl in the gutter Oh, it's no good You're in a depression, oh yeah Now you're on a mission, oh yeah You gotta get inside of your head And work it out Chorus California sober Your brain an ember Stuck like this forever California California Gotta work it out Work it out now You wear the khaki slacks And you don't ask for answers Acid melts the gray of your cubicle madness Your brain is melting down now you're about to go under Oh, it's so good The voices were your friends Now they're screaming in protest They always said that life was a matter of context Just gotta soothe your head Sleep it off in the rat's nest Oh, it's no good You're in a depression, oh yeah Now you're on a mission, oh yeah You gotta get inside of your head And work it out Chorus California sober Your brain an ember More than a stoner California, California
9.
(Cover Song, The Shivvers) You would never believe when I say it's only right And when I tell you my world spins around for you Just like I told you, once we go up, never come down Chorus No substitute, they'll be no one 'Cause there's no one like you under the sun And I'll keep on waiting till you'll be my one You'll be my one now No substitute You'll be my one now I try to show all my love and it's so hard When I show you how strong this love can be Just like I told you Once we go up, never come down Chorus Now, it's all up to you, don't wait too long This love's so strong Someday you'll tell me this love spins around you Someday you'll show me Once we come up never come down Chorus
10.
Overexposed 03:30
Terminally aimless Trying on a new face and a new game I wanted to be famous but only in the way I'd never be named In the chatroom now No one would find out Chorus I wanna run I wanna hide I wanna show what's deep inside Gotta try on another life Overexposed In my profile I'm the princess Underneath the mask its pimple and warts You'll never see my braces A shy coy smile that's more of a smirk Come on join the faceless We can still pretend like we're gonna meet At the foot court by the Payless Lickin Dippin Dots while you're kissing my cheek Here behind the screen bravely tapping keys I wanna run I wanna hide I wanna show what's deep inside I wanna share I wanna lie I gotta try on a different life I wanted to famous

about

Modern Adult Kicks is out now on tasty blue raspberry vinyl courtesy of Kitten Robot Records!

Grown up enough to party with the babysitter, Hayley and the Crushers' Modern Adult Kicks is exactly what it advertises to be: a more polished, wiser “big sister” to the band's sunny 2020 sophomore album, Vintage Millennial.

The album is a shining example of how to grow up without growing jaded (pandemic or not, impromptu dance parties are always encouraged in the Crusherverse). Anointed as “the naked embodiment of power pop punk” by New Wave icon Josie Cotton—who signed the band to her Kitten Robot Records last year—the California-to-Detroit transplants are helmed by husband-and-wife team guitarist Hayley Crusher Cain and bass player Dr. Cain ESQ (with Action Ben Cabreana on drums).

Together, they've created the retro-futuristic album that the world needs now: On Modern Adult Kicks, even the most bummer of subjects (addiction, heartbreak) contain a potent antidote of caffeine and heart.

about

Hayley and the Crushers Detroit, Michigan

One part pop, one part poison, all “poolside glitter punk,” Hayley and the Crushers are a tsunami of bold, bad girl power. Anointed as “the naked embodiment of power pop punk” by New Wave icon Josie Cotton, the Crushers have skipped the pupa stage in favor of a more dramatic comic book-style metamorphosis. Enter: Modern Adult Kicks (9/13/22), their most ambitious and self-possessed album to date. ... more
